Basel, Rapperswil, Winterthur, and Zurich

We came back from Rome on a Thursday via Basel. As we arrived into Basel early, we decided to do a brief tour of this very small, but picturesque city. The next day, we traveled about 20 minutes south of our home in Oberrieden to a town called Rapperswil, which is known for a midieval castle that is now home to a Polish museum. The castle and museum were unfortunately closed, but the outside area surrounding the castle was still open to the public and offered some amazing views of the town as well as Lake Zurich. Saturday we visited Kyburg Castle, one of the most impressive castles in Switzerland. Finally on Sunday, we were lucky enough to experience the Zurich "Fasnacht" or carnival (think Mardi Gras but on a much smaller scale). Sorry for the brief explanation, but the pictures will speak for themselves.

Trip to Rome

So Monday morning (Feb 19) we ventured to the airport to catch a flight to Rome, Italy. The flight was very easy since we had double coverage per kid. We arrived on time to Rome and headed to the apartment we rented for 4 days. We saw as much as possible of Rome in less than four days, visited as many monuments, churches, squares, and fountains.... so much to see and so little time. I will let the pictures show you some of the places we were at.... We came back on Thursday and spent the afternoon in Basel.

Grandma and Grandpa came to visit

So they finanly came. We all went to the airport to receive grandma and grandpa after their long flight to Zurich. The first day of their visit was about catching up, unpacking and realxing. Thanks for bringing so much stuff and thanks to all the family who sent stuff for the kids.. it was like Christmas morning in February. We spent some time on the back yard and had some yummy food. The second day we went to Zurich city to show them around. We also got ready for our trip to Rome.

Weekend before Grandma and Grandpa came

This weekend we decided to get ready for our first visitors after being here in Switzerland for almost 5 months (yeah! time flies). We took time to get orginized and plan the visit of the grand parents. We did some shopping and took it easy.

February

So February just flew by. The first weekend we went sledding. We tried Pilatus, just outside Luzern but it was closed so we ventured to Klewenalp, just under an hour away from Luzern. The lift up was not bad but we had to walk around the mountain to get to the sled trail. This took over an hour and belive it or not, Syd slept during this time. She was laying down on her front on one of the sleds and she just took a snooze. Once we got to the trail, she was up and we had a blast. The view was absolutley amaizing and the kids and us really enjoyed it.
